Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport Construction Updated

April 5, 2018

The construction work requiring nightly runway closures is beginning on schedule Monday, April 9th from 12:50AM to 5:00AM each night to 5:00AM Friday, April 13th.  For safety reasons, all taxiways will be closed during this timeframe and all lights and signs turned off as well.  A runway/taxiway closure for Monday night, April 16th is still tentative and the need for that closure will be determined later next week.  During this first phase additional runway closures are planned intermittently through the completion of the phase and will be announced sometime during the week of April 16th.

The construction work occurring during the day that began on April 2nd will also continue during this time.

We are currently in phase one which is anticipated to be completed by Friday, May 11th.

  • Runway and taxiway closures at night.  (see above)
  • As was announced in the March 29th email update, during runway closures FAA technicians will be shutting down their NAVAIDs like the ILS at 4:00PM the afternoon before the scheduled closure and won’t be bringing their systems back up until 6:00AM, one hour after the airport re-opens.
  • TWY A between TWY B3 and A3 are closed for the duration of this phase.  TWY A4, on both the east and west sides of the runway are also closed.  Because of this work, taxi routes are modified to accommodate the closures in this area.

After the construction activity was evaluated on Monday, it was determined that TWY B3 would also be closed Monday through Friday during the hours of 7:00AM to 6:00PM for the duration of the phase and taxi routes were changed to accommodate the closure.  (see drawing and note below for taxiing guidance)

Today we received approval from TSA to mitigate some of this impact by allowing discretion on the part of ATC to route some GA aircraft between the windsock area and the terminal ramp when necessary.  HOWEVER, this route has only been approved for aircraft under ATC control, not during non-tower hours.

  • During the portion of the phase that affects the northern end of the hangar taxilane and the entrance to Rogue Valley Hangars, aircraft need to be towed through this area for the duration because of the close proximity of equipment and personnel working in the area.  Advanced coordination (minimum 24 hours) with the on-site engineer is required so the necessary precautions can be taken to move through the area.  Contact Dave Butler with Precision Approach Engineering at 541-740-7326 for these arrangements.

If weather does not impact the schedule, the access to RV Hangars will be closed completely during the final work in the area which is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning April 25th at 12:50AM and continue to Friday, April 27th at 5:00PM when the area will be opened to regular operations.  Vehicle access will still be available through the area during the duration of the work.  Please refer to the attached construction diagram for guidance during the work in this phase.

IMPORTANT:  The following phasing drawings depict the new geometry of the airfield after the construction so TWY A4 is shown as the renumbered TWY A3 and TWY A5 is show as the new TWY A4.  Also, the second diagram displays the new numbering for TWYs C and C3.
