How do we help?
Shelter, Care, and Find “Forever Homes” for Pets
Each year, thousands of lost, stray, and unwanted animals become residents of the Jackson County Animal Shelter. When a stray or unwanted animal is brought to the Shelter, a nationally recognized screening process is performed by trained staff to determine temperament, characteristics, and adoptability.
This is done to help ensure that pets are properly matched with responsible owners and that dangerous animals are not released back into the community. Those wishing to adopt a pet can fill out an application and receive education by trained adoption staff, which maximizes the chance the animal will be placed in a loving “forever home” and afforded proper care. Once an applicant is approved, they go home with their new family member. Jackson County Animal Shelter places approximately 1,200 dogs and cats into “forever homes” each year.
