ROGUE RIVER – On August 10 at 5:26 p.m., deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 1000-block of West Evans Creek Road involving a four-wheel ATV and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The ATV operator, Kurtis Lloyd Kline, 61, was unresponsive when the first deputy arrived. Deputy Noah Strohmeyer performed CPR until medics arrived, but Kline died at the scene.
Investigators determined Kline was driving northbound at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line and collided head on with the southbound Jeep. Kline sustained multiple injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
Kline lived a short distance from the crash location. Witnesses reported he was operating the ATV up and down the roadway for some time before the crash occurred.
The two occupants of the Jeep were not injured, despite the vehicle sustaining heavy damage. The Jeep driver was identified as Horacio Sanchez-Torres, 24, of Marysville, Oregon. No citations have been issued.
