Dave DotterrerDave Dotterrer was elected to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in November 2020 and sworn into office on January 4, 2021.  Commissioner Dotterrer serves as Chair of the Board for 2022. 

For the 2022 calendar year, Commissioner Dotterrer is the Board liaison to the following County departments and/or committees:  Airport (Airport Advisory Committee), Community Justice (Local Public Safety Coordinating Council), County Administrator, County Administration (County Audit Committee, Law Library Advisory Committee, and Regional Disposal Site Advisory Committee), District Attorney, Economic Development Advisory Committee, Justice Court, Roads and Parks (County Roads Advisory Committee, Jackson County Bicycle Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and Traffic Safety Advisory Board), Sheriff, Surveyor, and Watermaster.  

Commissioner Dotterrer is also the Board liaison to the City Councils of Ashland, Central Point, Phoenix, and Talent.  In addition, he serves as the Board liaison to the Ashland Gun and Archery Club, Ashland YMCA, Association of Oregon Counties/AOC (Veterans Steering Committee), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Logos Public Charter School, Mid Rogue Metropolitan Planning Organization/MRMPO, National Association of Counties/NACo, Natural Resource Conservation Service, NOAA Fisheries Services, Regional Solutions Advisory Committee (Governor's), Rogue Valley Area Commission on Transportation/RVACT, Rogue Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization/RVMPO, Rogue Workforce Partnership, Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development, Inc./SOREDI, Transportation Advocacy Committee/TRADCO, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Commissioner Dave Dotterrer was raised in Eugene, Oregon, and attended Oregon State University. He received a degree in business administration and, through the ROTC program, received a commission in the United States Marine Corps in 1973.  He then served for 28 years as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel. He is a graduate of Army Airborne School and an honor graduate of Army Ranger School.  He earned master’s degrees in both military history and national security policy and strategy.  During his years of military service, he commanded at all levels and ended his career commanding the Marine Barracks in Washington DC, as well as serving as the Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.

After retirement, Commissioner Dotterrer worked as an operational analyst on contract with the Defense Department for a joint test and evaluation program researching innovative solutions to operational problems impacting all services. He then served, from 2011 to 2014, as the budget coordinator and strategic analyst in the Oregon legislature for the Republican House and Senate caucuses.   In 2016, he led the transition team for newly-elected Oregon Secretary of State, Dennis Richardson. 

Commissioner Dotterer is married to the former Kerry Roberts of Ashland, and they have two children and five grandchildren.  His daughter is a grade school teacher currently home schooling and raising her three children, and his son is a Marine major with four infantry tours in the Middle East.
