The Jackson County Planning Commission generally meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month when they have agenda items to discuss, with the exception of usually just one meeting held in November and December due to the holidays.

Brad Bennington: 40 years of experience in land use, construction and general contracting in Jackson, Klamath, Lake, Josephine, Douglas, and Deschutes Counties in Oregon, as well as Siskiyou and Modoc Counties on Northern California. Active member of the Oregon Home Builders Association, as well as a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee and the Medford Chamber of Commerce. He was appointed to the Commission on January 29, 2014.

Jon Elliott:  He is a native Oregonian and, except for his years in the service, has lived in either Jackson, Klamath, Lake, or Benton County in Oregon. His professional career has been spent in agriculture, mainly in the cattle business. He has served on various committees and commissions at both the local and state level, all having something to do with land use.  He comes to the Planning Commission without any agenda.  His interest is to represent the citizens of  Jackson County to allow people to live their lives and conduct their affairs with as little interference from government as possible.

Don Greene:  Lifetime resident of Jackson County, living just outside of Ashland. He is a retired general contractor, working in the field for more than 35 years, specializing in custom homes, utilizing the principles of Feng Shui design.  His volunteer activities have included LCDC Subcommittee for Citizen Involvement, Ashland Planning Commission, State Housing Council, and Oregon builder representative to the Northwest Power Council’s Super Good Cents Program.  He and his wife, Niki Newkirk, have five children and seven grandchildren.  He has been a Planning Commissioner since 1997.

Tom Lavagnino: Resident of Southern Oregon since 1977 and a retired Forester and Public Affairs Officer for the USDA Forest Service.  He continues to serve as Public Information Officer for various national and regional incident management teams.  His volunteer activities include: past member of the City of Ashland Planning Commission; previous member of the Jackson County Roads and Park Committee; former President, board member, and current member of the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy; and past President of the Fern Valley Estates Improvement District.  He and his wife Vicki have three children and three grandchildren.  He was appointed to the Jackson County Planning Commission in December 2014.

Richard (Dick) Thierolf: Lifelong resident of Oregon. He lives in Ashland and is an attorney. His volunteer activities have included the Medford Planning Commission, several Oregon State Bar committees, and the Southern Oregon Estate Planning Council.  He has been a Planning Commissioner since 2001.

PUBLIC HEARING: Consideration of a major text amendment to the Jackson County Land Development Ordinance, specifically Section 6.5.3(B) (Response to Natural Disasters and Emergencies). The text amendment is necessary to continue to meet the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) for floodplain management in Jackson County. The changes are a result of the passage of the 2021 Oregon Model Floodplain Ordinance. File No. 439-21-00004-LRP. Dawn Rittiman, Planner; 541-774-6922.
