On October 27, 2016, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing for elected officials and citizens to provide comments on the proposed expansion of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. As a result of the public hearing and the input that was received, the Board agreed at their November 8, 2016, Work Session to send a letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell. The Board's letter clarifies that while there is support in the community for the expansion of the National Monument, there is significant local opposition to any expansion of the National Monument and opposition to the process under which the proposed expansion is being considered. While there were numerous objections to the proposed expansion identified at the public hearing, and via submitted written testimony, the Board narrowed the scope of the letter to three key objections.
The letter can be downloaded below. Also available for download, below, is the transcript of the public hearing and the submissions to the public hearing.
