COVID-19 Updates - December 10, 2021

Yesterday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Committee authorized for emergency use the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for 16 and 17- year-olds, at least six months after they received their second shot of that vaccine.

CDC now encourages all 16 and 17-year-old adolescents to receive a booster dose of Pfizer vaccine 6 months after completing their initial Pfizer vaccination series. Adults 18 years of age and older should receive a booster dose of any brand of COVID vaccine. Spacing is 6 months from the previous dose for Pfizer or Moderna and 2 months for Johnson and Johnson.

As of 12:01 a.m. on December 10, 2021, Jackson County Public Health is reporting 42 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total cases in Jackson County to 25,424.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations for Region 5 (Jackson and Josephine Counties)

As of 8:00 a.m. on December 10, 2021, the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is 52, and there are 16 patients with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit.

The total number of patients in hospital beds may fluctuate between report times. The numbers do not reflect admissions per day nor the length of hospital stay. Staffing limitations are not captured in this data and may further limit bed capacity.
