MEDFORD, OREGON — April 20, 2020, Over the last three weeks, Harry & David has been donating snack foods to community organizations across Jackson and Josephine Counties including the Jackson County Emergency Operation Center (EOC). The total retail value of the in-kind donations, which is prioritized for health care workers and first responders, exceeds $200,000. “We wanted to bring a smile to the health care workers’ faces and thank them for all of their efforts in helping keep our community safe,” says Rhonda Klug, Manager of Community Relations at Harry & David. “If we can bring out a smile, even for a brief moment, we’ve accomplished what we set out to do!”
In addition to donating 11 pallets worth of signature snacks to Providence Medford Medical Center and the Asante Foundation, Harry & David also provided 14,000 bags of Moose Munch and over 1,000 bags of chips to the Jackson County Emergency Operations Center. The EOC, in turn, is rapidly distributing the donated items to over 15 organizations around the county including long term care facilities, local fire districts, and community teams who are making personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.
As of today, 34 pallets of Harry & David snacks have been distributed to dozens of local organizations including Providence Medford Medical Center, Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, Asante Ashland Community Hospital, Asante Three Rivers Medical Center, Medford Gospel Mission, Village at Valley View Nursing Home, Ashland Food Bank, Compassion Highway, Medford YMCA, Northwest Seasonal Workers Association, Families Helping Families and Mothers Helping Mothers groups, Phoenix Counseling, and United Way of Jackson County as well as the Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio.
Klug notes that donating to the community is a regular practice for Harry & David. “We are so grateful to be a part of this community,” adds Klug. “The community makes us who we are and vice versa. We are very proud of everyone who is working together during this difficult time.”
