Due to COVID-19 health concerns, Judge Joe Charter has announced a 60 day postponement policy for the Justice Court. For those who have a citation to appear at the court, 4173 Hamrick Road, Central Point, they can call the court at (541) 774-1286 to request a postponement of their appearance date, up to and including May 13, 2020. Postponements will be freely given on request, but citizens need to call during normal operating hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and talk in person to a clerk so that their request can be noted in the court records. It is not sufficient to leave a voice mail message. Due to the volume of our calls, we cannot guarantee to return calls before the appearance date noted on the citation.
Postponement of trials up to and including May 13, 2020 will also be freely given, but also must be requested by talking in person with a court clerk. Citizens can also respond to citations by communicating by writing a letter to the court (Options 1, 2, and 3 on the back of the ticket) to provide an explanation (when entering a plea of “No Contest”) or to request a trial. Written communications should be mailed to 4173 Hamick Road, Central Point, OR 97520 or emailed to JusticeCourt@jacksoncounty.org.
“Our primary concern is to protect vulnerable persons over age 60, with underlying health conditions, or with weakened immune systems,” said Judge Joe Charter. “We also ask that people who are feeling sick not come into the building, but call the court to reschedule or conclude their business on the phone. We will be open during normal operating hours, but want to avoid in person contact when possible,” he said.
