[Medford, Oregon]— May 21, 2020, Jackson County Public Health has no new confirmed COVID-19 cases to announce. The total number of cases remains at 52 in Jackson County. Of the total number of cases, 46 (88%) cases have recovered, and 6 (12%) cases remain active. At this time, there are no fatalities from COVID-19 reported in Jackson County. As people begin staying home less and attend gatherings, it is important to understand that the virus has not been eliminated, and there is no vaccine available to prevent people from getting this infection. Therefore, there is still a risk for people to become ill with COVID-19 and pass the illness on to others. Jackson County Public Health expects to see an increase in COVID-19 cases as people begin to move around more.
Jackson County Public Health recommends that everyone take action to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. When everyone takes these actions, it helps to protect the health and wellness of the community, and it will also help keep Jackson County open.
It is recommended that everyone stay close to home, practice physical distancing (stay 6 feet away from people who are not in your household), and practice good hygiene. In addition, it is highly recommended that everyone wear a face covering, made from cloth or paper, while out in public settings, especially in settings that are indoors and where it may be difficult to ensure that you can stay 6 feet away from others at all times. Since people can spread the virus before symptoms start, or even if people never have symptoms, wearing a face covering can protect others around you. Face coverings worn by others protect you from getting the virus from people carrying the virus.
The availability of testing has increased in Jackson County; therefore, if you develop mild symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell), you should contact your medical provider. Your medical provider can make a referral for you to get tested at the appropriate location. You can also contact one of the medical clinics or healthcare systems that is providing testing. Testing and for COVID-19 is available to all people, regardless of documentation status.
