Jackson County Public Health reports 44 new COVID-19 cases as of 12:01 am on January 6, 2021. Additionally, six previously reported cases were removed from the overall case total. These updates bring the total reported COVID-19 cases in Jackson County to 6,211.
Jackson County Public Health reports one new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 75.
Jackson County's 75th COVID-19 death is a 64-year-old man who tested positive on December 16 and died on January 3 at Rogue Regional Medical Center. The patient had underlying conditions.

COVID-19 Vaccine
Jackson County Public Health is working with the hospitals and current COVID-19 vaccine providers to vaccinate those in Phase 1A, Group 1. Read about priority groups in Oregon's Phase 1A COVID-19 Vaccine Plan. Today, Jackson County Public Health began vaccinating those in Phase 1A, Group1; currently, we have scheduled vaccination for Valley Immediate Care and Law Enforcement.
In keeping with the Oregon Health Authority's recommendations, it is not being offered to the general public at this time. However, we will keep you updated when the vaccine is readily available to broader groups. Stay informed by checking the Jackson County Health and Human Services COVID-19 Vaccine page.
- Phase 1A, Group 1 includes hospitals, urgent care, skilled nursing, memory care facility HCP and residents, tribal health programs, EMS providers, and other first responders (Fire and Law Enforcement).
Jackson County Public Health will continue to collaborate with the hospitals and COVID-19 vaccine providers to coordinate the COVID-19 vaccine distribution. The collaboration will be important as Oregon prepares to vaccinate people within the other Groups of Phase 1A.

The best way to find accurate information on the COVID-19 Risk Level for Oregon Counties and what activities are open is to access the Governor’s website, What’s Open in My County page. This website also provides the metrics for the COVID-19 Risk Levels. Currently, Jackson County is under the Extreme Risk level, and disease activity continues to be widespread in the county.
Masks are currently required statewide at all times unless you are:
- At your own residence
- In your own personal vehicle
- Under 5 years of age
- Eating or drinking
- Engaged in an activity that makes wearing a mask, face-covering or face shield not feasible, such as when taking a shower.
- Sleeping
- In a private, individual workspace
- Removing the mask briefly because your identity needs to be confirmed by visual comparisons, such as at a bank or if interacting with law enforcement
