People have begun to stay home less, are increasing their travel, and are attending social gatherings, it is important to understand that the virus has not been eliminated, and there is no vaccine available to prevent people from getting this infection. Therefore, there is still a risk for people to become ill with COVID-19 and pass the illness on to others. Jackson County Public Health expects to see an increase in COVID-19 cases as people have begun to move around more, and are attending social gatherings with people outside of their immediate household more often.
Jackson County Public Health highly recommends that everyone take action to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It is recommended that everyone stay close to home, practice physical distancing (stay 6 feet away from people who are not in your household), and practice good hygiene.
In addition, it is highly recommended that everyone wear a face covering, made from cloth or paper, while out in public settings, especially in settings that are indoors and where it may be difficult to ensure that you can stay 6 feet away from others at all times. Face coverings worn by others protect you from getting the virus from people carrying the virus.
