JACKSON COUNTY, OREGON — Jackson County Emergency Management is reporting on a test evacuation notification issued today and rebroadcast to Ring Home Security System customers.
Jackson and Josephine Counties share the Citizen Alert Emergency Notification systems. Today, Josephine County was conducting internal testing of new functionality in the system, specifically the Nixle alerting channels, when a test alert was published to the public Nixle website without “this is a test” within the message. The alert was then picked up and rebroadcast by the Ring Home Security Systems through its doorbell alarm app, impacting customers in Jackson and Josephine Counties. This integration and rebroadcast of issues alerts through Ring has never occurred before.
Shortly after realizing the test had been posted in the Ring Home Security system, Josephine County cancelled the initial test message. Both Jackson and Josephine Counties then issued a follow up message through the Citizen Alert notification system to confirm no evacuation alerts had actually been issued in either County.
The Counties are working with Everbridge and Ring Home Security System to understand the rebroadcast and impact area. The review and resolution from this test message will be shared as soon as possible.
Citizens are encouraged to sign up for the Citizen Alert System at www.JacksonCounty.org/alert
