JACKSON COUNTY, OREGON 10 S OAKDALE AVE MEDFORD, OR 97501
Fall is finally here which means cooler nights and thinking about installing a woodstove in your home or firing up the one you already have. A couple of things to remember as the cold wet weather rolls into southern Oregon.
First, if you are thinking about installing a new woodstove or replacing an old one in your home, know that a permit is required in Jackson County. All wood and pellet stoves require a mechanical permit and inspection to make sure they meet building and mechanical code. They must meet manufacturer’s installation requirements and be EPA or DEQ certified. All stoves also require a spark arrestor at the chimney cap. For more information, please call 541-774-6927.
Second, smoke from woodstoves and fireplaces can contribute significantly to air pollution in the fall and winter, especially during periods of air stagnation. November through February Environmental Public Health posts the current wood burning advisory on the county website daily. For more information regarding the wood burning advisory and what you need to know about the green, yellow and red burn days, see Wood Stove and Open Burning.
