 Diversion Services

Diversion is an alternative to going before a Judge that is offered to youth who have committed a first-time offense or are considered low risk to re-offend. Benefits to the youth include the opportunity to take responsibility for their actions and to make amends for the harms done, without going through a court process.

Generally, diversion is a one-time opportunity for a youth. To be eligible for diversion, the youth must acknowledge responsibility for the offense, be lower risk to re-offend and agree to fulfill a number of requirements focused on accountability to victims, the community and prevention of repeat offenses.

Diversion agreements may include restitution, community service, appropriate skill development classes, face-to-face meetings with victims or treatment and counseling sessions.

Diversion Agreements help juveniles avoid court and convictions as long as they abide by certain conditions meant to help right the wrongs they have committed.
