Crime Victims’ Compensation Program - Oregon Department of Justice

The Crime Victims’ Compensation Program assists victims of person crimes (assault, rape, homicide, domestic violence, robbery, child abuse and other serious crimes) in paying for medical, counseling and funeral expenses.

Some of the things the program may cover

  • victim supportUp to $20,000 in crime related medical and/or counseling expenses.
  • Up to $5,000 in funeral expenses.
  • Reimbursement for mileage for medical appointments when the physician is more than 60 miles from the victim’s home.
  • Documented loss of support or earnings as the result of the crime.

Program Eligibility

  • The crime occurred in Oregon
  • The crime was reported to law enforcement
  • The victim is willing to actively participate in the case
  • The victim was not involved in any criminal activity at the time the crime occurred
  • The victim applies for program within a year of the crime

How to Apply- Three easy ways

  • Apply on-line at the Oregon Department of Justice website.
  • The website is https://justice.oregon.gov/victims/compensation.
  • Victims can obtain a paper copy of the application from the Jackson County Victim Assistance Program, located at 815 W. 10th St. in Medford Oregon.
  • Applications are available at other community agencies, including Community Works, the Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center, Conger Morris, and the local hospitals.
