Public hearings scheduled for rule clarifying use of cross-boundary prescribed burns

SALEM, Ore.—Public hearings are scheduled February 22–24 to gather feedback on the proposed amendment to Oregon Administrative Rule 629-043-0026, which addresses cross-boundary prescribed burns.

The proposed amendment, required under Senate Bill 762 (2021), puts existing ODF policy allowing cross-boundary burns if a land owner gets a permit for the burn and follows existing regulations into administrative rule. The Board of Forestry approved the public hearing process for the amendment to Oregon Administrative Rule 629-043-0026 during their February 5 meeting. See the notice of proposed rulemaking for draft rule language.

Public comment can be made by joining any of the public meetings at the specified time through the Zoom meeting links:

Comment on the proposed amendment can also be submitted by email until 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at sb762.rulemaking@oregon.gov.

General comments or questions on the department’s implementation of Senate Bill 762 can be emailed to sb762.rulemaking@oregon.gov
