Jackson County WIC plays a vital role in the promotion and support of breastfeeding to improve the health outcomes of moms and babies. 98% of Jackson County WIC moms start out breastfeeding! Jackson County WIC supports breastmilk as the norm for infant feeding.
Health organizations worldwide recommend that mothers breastfeed their babies exclusively for six months, and then continue breastfeeding for one year and beyond, even as solid foods are introduced. The longer and more exclusively a mother breastfeeds her baby, the greater the health benefits they both receive.
