Wheeler Road Bridge #360 Replacement Project

Bridge #360 on Wheeler Road which crosses over Snider Creek is coming up for replacement.  This one-lane wooden bridge is being replaced with a 2-lane concrete structure which will serve the local community well for many years to come.

We've outsourced the design phase of the project to our partners at OBEC Consulting Engineers and when the design is complete we plan to contract out some of the work items as well as construct parts of the bridge ourselves using our skilled labor force.

Construction is planned for the summer of 2017 with a long-term detour being set up for local traffic to avoid this crossing.  The current bridge width along with the new bridge alignment do not allow even one-lane traffic to be kept in place during construction.  Closing the bridge crossing will also allow work to proceed at an accelerated pace which allows for an earlier completion date once work begins.

As a money-saving strategy the decision was made to use existing concrete bridge beams which were used on a temporary bridge structure by ODOT in the Eugene area several years ago.  We were able to obtain these beams at a significant savings and simply are designing other bridge components around these key structural pieces.
