The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office currently has three K9 Teams. Our two patrol canines are Belgian Malinois, trained and used in building and area searches, felony car stops, suspect racks, apprehensions, handler protection, and evidence searches.
Our narcotics detection canine is a Retriever Labrador mix and is "three scent" trained in the detection of narcotics, excluding marijuana. The canine handlers are assigned to patrol shifts, are available for call out 24 hours a day and available for outside agency assists when requested. The canine teams also are involved with several special events and public demonstrations every year.
