The mission of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team is to support the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and any other requesting law enforcement agency with a tactical response to critical incidents. When a critical incident occurs, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team will be activated. Those incidents may include: hostage situations, barricade situations, sniper situations, high risk apprehension, and high-risk warrant service.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team consists of a twenty-member, highly-trained team. The Sheriff’s Office activated the team in 2006, and since its inception SWAT has been involved in at least 20 missions every year. The SWAT Team has four main elements that include entry, snipers, utility personnel and hostage negotiators. Each member is required to attend monthly training as well as a forty-hour block of yearly training. The team has specialized tactical equipment at its disposal for use that includes armored vehicles, chemical agents, less lethal munitions, firearms and a variety of negotiation tools.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team is a highly skilled and well-equipped tactical unit that will respond to any part of Jackson County, whether in municipal or unincorporated areas, to protect the citizens of Jackson County.
