BODYCAM Video: Deputies Rescue Elude Suspect from Burning Car

JCSO Case 23-3843

WHITE CITY, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies rescued a woman from a burning car Wednesday night after she attempted to elude authorities. At approximately 10:18 p.m. a JCSO deputy observed a suspect with felony warrants at the Chevron in White City. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the suspect eluded onto Antelope Road toward Table Rock Road. The deputy quickly terminated the pursuit because he had the suspect identified as Mindy Alizabeth Harrison, 30, of Shady Cove.

After deactivating lights and sirens, Harrison slowed down and the deputy was able to keep her in view. During this time, other law enforcement units began to converge in an attempt to get in front and spike her tires.  A short time later, a deputy parked at the intersection of Ironwood Drive and Leafwood Drive in Eagle Point spotted Harrison and she accelerated away toward awaiting spike strips. An Eagle Point Police Department (EPPD) officer at the intersection of Ironwood Drive and Rogue River Drive successfully spiked her tires. She still continued to flee northbound on Rogue River Drive for about a mile on flattened tires until she lost control of her vehicle and drove into a ditch.

While deputies were taking her into custody, the heat from the exposed wheels caught the surrounding grass on fire before quickly spreading to the car. Deputies were able to rescue her from the burning vehicle and she was taken into custody without further incident. Law enforcement on scene used available fire extinguishers which slowed the fire’s spread. Jackson County Fire District 3 firefighters arrived, extinguished the blaze, and stopped the further spread of the fire to nearby grass.

Harrison was booked and lodged in the Jackson County Jail for attempting to elude police by vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangering, and six arrest warrants.  Her car was completely destroyed by the fire and towed from the scene. EPPD and Oregon State Police assisted with the elude and car fire. There is no further information available for release.
