Deputies Investigate Shady Cove Fires

SHADY COVE, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies are seeking help to identify the suspect in a string of grass fires. Deputies believe the same suspect is likely responsible for setting three suspicious fires in the Shady Cove area Thursday night.

On August 30, 2018, at 9:10 p.m., the first fire was reported to dispatch in the area of Train Lane and Highway 62. A second fire, at Brophy Way and Highway 62, was reported four hours later at 1:11 a.m. The third fire, in the 2500-block of Indian Creek Road, was reported at 1:19 a.m.

Fire crews from Jackson County Fire District #4 (Shady Cove Fire) and the Oregon Department of Forestry responded to fight the fires. No structures were lost; nobody was injured. A resident was able to extinguish one of the fires with a shovel before fire crews arrived. The fires remain under investigation.

Witnesses reported seeing a light-colored, possibly tan, Pontiac Sunfire sedan leaving the area immediately prior to the fire being spotted. Deputies hope someone can provide information about the driver and occupants of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Corporal Steven Scow at (541) 776-7206. Refer to case #18-18294.
