Deputies Investigating Threatening Statement Made Towards Shady Cove School, Student Lodged in Juvenile Detention

JCSO Case 23-2645

SHADY COVE, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies are investigating a threatening statement on social media made last night by a student at Shady Cove School. When notified this morning, the school immediately called 911 and JCSO deputies responded. The school conducted a precautionary lockdown until deputies arrived and began investigating. Based on the investigation, JCSO deputies lodged the student in Juvenile Detention for first-degree disorderly conduct.

At this time there is no threat to the Shady Cove School. JCSO’s School Safety Deputy is developing a safety plan with the student’s parents and the investigation is ongoing. The Eagle Point School District behavioral crisis team is conducting a threat assessment on the student.

We take threats to school safety very seriously. If you learn of any school threats, call ECSO Dispatch at (541) 776-7206 to speak with law enforcement.
