Deputies Thwart Escape Attempt
MEDFORD – Two inmates awaiting trial for federal crimes are accused of attempting to escape the Jackson County Jail. Inmates Gerald Schram, 62, and Henry Carr, 35, now face state charges of attempting to escape and criminal mischief. Both remain held without bail.
An off duty corrections deputy was leaving the jail on December 2nd, 2014 when he heard a suspicious noise coming from an upper level cell window. Deputies reacted quickly, placing the jail in lockdown and accounting for all inmates. They found the window in Schram’s cell had been damaged. The cost to replace the specialized security glass exceeded $1000.
Detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation. Detectives were able to identify the inmates involved, as well as uncover evidence of a possible co-conspirator outside the jail. The investigation is ongoing.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to keeping citizens safe. The corrections deputies who serve our community are tasked with a demanding, often dangerous job. Their quick action on this day exemplifies their dedication to making Jackson County a safe place to live.
