Fatal Crash Investigation

On March 26, 2016, at approximately 8:25pm, deputies responded to the 2200-block of Corey Rd. for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.  The female pedestrian, Deanna Gonzalez Byrd, 46, died at the scene.

Investigators determined the vehicle involved, a full size Dodge pickup, struck Byrd as she was walking in the roadway.  Byrd had been walking with a man who was not injured in the crash.  He was found to be intoxicated and was transported to the Moore Sobering Center.

The driver has been cooperative with investigators.  The crash is still under investigation.  The findings will be referred to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review, which is standard procedure in fatal vehicle crashes.
