Wednesday, February 10th at 12:58 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Butte Falls High School for a report of a juvenile male, who did not attend the school, assaulting another male juvenile student on school property. Staff reported the male suspect flashed a handgun which was tucked into the waistband of his pants. The suspect fled the school prior to deputies arriving. The victim received minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Deputies received information that the suspect was hiding in the attic of a residence in the 300 block of Main Street, Butte Falls. Deputies responded to the address, located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with Assault 4 and Menacing and lodged at Jackson County Juvenile Detention. The gun, a 9mm, was located and taken into evidence.

Both Butte Falls High School and Elementary School went into lockdown for approximately 45 minutes during the incident.
