Man Injured in Boat Ramp Accident (Photo)
TRAIL, Ore. – A Butte Falls man remains hospitalized after being injured while launching a boat on Tuesday. The accident occurred at the Takelma boat ramp at Lost Creek Lake.
On July 30, 2019, at 10:45 a.m., Leonard Howe, Sr., 92, and his son were attempting to launch a boat. The parking brake on their Jeep gave way, sending the vehicle and boat trailer into the water. Howe was standing next to the vehicle and fell to the ground. It is unclear whether Howe was struck by the vehicle or simply fell when the vehicle began rolling.
A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office marine patrol deputy was at the boat ramp when the accident occurred. He was able to render aid for an apparent head injury and summon additional help immediately.
Personnel from Fire District #4 responded to assist. A Mercy Flights ambulance transported Howe from the boat ramp to the parking area. He was then flown to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center by Mercy Flights helicopter.
The deputy assisted with removing the vehicle and boat from the water. Nobody else was injured in the incident.
