Man Jailed After Backing Over Toddler
TRAIL – A Trail man is in jail after he reportedly struck a toddler with his vehicle while backing out of a driveway. A Mercy Flights helicopter transported the one-year-old girl to Rogue Regional Medical Center. The child was admitted for treatment; her condition is unknown at the time of this release.
On Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at approximately 4:22 p.m., the child’s family called 911 to report that James Edward Lickiss, 72, struck the child’s head with the tire of his red 1997 Plymouth Neon as he backed out of their shared driveway in the 800-block of Old Trail Creek Road. Lickiss drove away from the scene and returned a short time later to find first responders at the residence. Lickiss was apparently unaware his vehicle had struck the child.
The deputies’ investigation indicated Lickiss showed signs of being under the influence of controlled substances. Lickiss was lodged in jail on charges of Assault in the third degree, Driving under the influence of intoxicants, and Reckless driving. His bail at lodging was $32,000. The case has been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
