JCSO Public Relations Officer / Tuesday, April 26, 2016 / Categories: News New Forensic Equipment We recently obtained a new piece of forensic equipment to help us fight crime. The Vacuum Metal Deposition (VMD) unit uses a fine mist of metals to display fingerprints left on items. The VMD helps examiners see fingerprints on clothing and items that have been submerged in water -- something our current "super glue" fuming method can't do. Buying a new VMD would have been an expensive purchase. Luckily, we were able to obtain it through an agreement with another government agency. Our only expense was in transporting the VMD to our office and installing a power supply. This interesting technology - at a relatively low cost to taxpayers - gives our forensic examiners an opportunity to help us solve more criminal cases for the citizens of Jackson County.
