Phone Scam Hits Sheriff's Office

Phone Scam Hits Sheriff’s Office

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn people about a scam hitting the region. There have now been several reports filed with area law enforcement agencies about a person contacting a victim and telling them they are Captain or Lieutenant with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division. The suspect tells the victim they missed jury duty and now have a warrant out for their arrest. Instead of being arrested, the suspect tells the victim they can take care of the issue by posting bail with $1,000 in prepaid gift cards.

People who receive a phone call similar in nature should hang up. A member of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you regarding a warrant and wanting prepaid gift cards to clear the matter up.

This scam has hit several law enforcement agencies in the region. Residents should use caution when someone calls asking for any amount of money or personal information.
