Seatbelt Enforcement Blitz Completed
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recently wrapped up the first of three seat belt blitzes scheduled for this year in conjunction with the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign. OSP, sheriffs and local police worked to increase proper safety belt and child car seat use during a statewide traffic enforcement “blitz” from February 9 through February 22. This enhanced enforcement is paid for by dedicated funding from USDOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Results from the Sheriff’s Office show 27 drivers cited or warned for seat belt or child seat violations. Another 16 drivers were cited for Driving While Suspended. 74 cites or warnings were issued for other traffic violations. Additionally, eight vehicles were impounded and nine felony or misdemeanor arrests were made as a result of traffic stops on offender vehicles.
The fine for any seat belt or child seat violation in Oregon is $110.
