Two Arrested in Home Burglary

On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 6:42 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 600 block of N. 6th Avenue, in Gold Hill.  Witnesses along 6th Avenue informed deputies a man and a women had just fled the home and pointed to the direction of travel.  Several witnesses even followed the suspects and were able to give very clear information on what they were wearing, type of backpack they were carrying and where they each went after they split off.

Deputies used tips from neighbors in the area and were able to catch up with both suspects, taking them both into custody.  Rex Stansell, age 50, from Eagle Point, and Melissa Crandell, age 35, from Central Point, were both arrested for burglary.  They were also able to locate a hooded sweatshirt one of the suspects had removed and a backpack the suspects were carrying.

Items taken from the house were recovered and include collectible items.  There were also several backpacks that had been packed up that were still inside the residence.

Stansell is charged with Burglary 1, Criminal Trespass, Possession of Burglar’s Tools, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Crandell is lodged at the Jackson County Jail and is charged with Burglary 1, Criminal Trespass 1, Criminal Trespass 2, and Theft 3.
