As December draws to a close, we find ourselves in the season of giving. We at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office are proud to partner with an organization that helps to bring joy to children and families.
The mission of Toys for Tots is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them to less fortunate children in the community. One of the organization's primary goals is to help kids experience the joy of Christmas while encouraging them to become productive and responsible citizens.
Toys for Tots was founded in Los Angeles in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks. That year, more than 5,000 toys were collected and distributed to needy children in the Los Angeles area. The program was so successful that the United States Marine Corps Reserve expanded the program nationwide the following year. The program has grown so much that in 2013, Toys for Tots distributed more than 16 million toys to nearly 7 million children.
Locally, Crater Lake Ford has been the main Toys for Tots distribution site for the last two years. Last Saturday, our deputies assisted Toys for Tots in distributing toys for more than 1,600 kids. Deputies will continue to distribute toys received through the Toys for Tots program until Christmas. We want to thank everyone who has helped to make this such a successful event.
Thank you for your support,
Captain Tim Snaith
