Weekly Update - Corrections Bureau

This week’s Corrections Bureau update is provided by Denise Bottoms, Corrections Records Supervisor.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office jail records division is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by 15 clerks.  It is work that requires technical expertise, as well as the ability to handle unexpected changes in the daily routine.

Jail records clerks handle all of the documentation and data entry associated with an inmate’s stay from the day they are lodged until the day they are released.  A normal 10-hour shift presents many tasks, including answering phones, assisting customers at the reception window, processing paperwork, data entry, and much more.  Clerks speak directly to inmates to obtain necessary information at intake, and to provide them with instructions and documents upon their release.

In addition to the many complex tasks they perform on a daily basis, clerks are often affected by challenging situations – uncooperative inmates, unpleasant odors, phone calls from upset family members, and unscheduled overtime. At the same time, such challenges are what make each day interesting and unique.

Our professional and capable records staff may not be the most visible employees at JCSO, but their work is invaluable.  These men and women work diligently to provide an important service to the community.  We want to recognize them for a job well done.
